However, this also negates many of the natural beneficial properties of wool: superwash wool don't have the natural elasticity, durability, or memory that non-superwash wool. Nylon is often added to superwash merino (a fine wool not suited to hard wear) to give it back some of the strength lost from superwashing, but without the superwash treatment, more sturdy wools like highland wool or BFL don't need nylon as they are strong and durable on their own. These all-natural sock yarns will felt a little bit at the heel, toes, and balls of the feet, which increases their durability even more. Which means fewer holes and less mending for you!
