Me Made May 2026: Week 1

Me Made May 2026: Week 1

This year, I am committed to wearing and showcasing my hand-knit and hand-sewn wardrobe. I wear a handknit almost every day anyway, and I’m trying to do more sewing to fill gaps in my wardrobe instead of buying (even though I usually buy secondhand). Here is the first seven days of wearing my handmade wardrobe every day in May!

Day 1: Friday

Day one was for running errands and working from home, so I had on my wfh “uniform” of comfy trousers and a cozy jumper.

Me mades: I’m wearing an early prototype of my Sure Thing Raglan, which is a DK-weight raglan pattern that I am still working out the kinks on — but I plan for the pattern to be available autumn 2026! This one is knit in alpaca yarn from the Perfect Blend Yarn & Tea Shop in Rhinebeck, NY that I bought in 2024 when I visited for the NY Sheep & Wool Festival. I’ve also got my Bestie Bag by BF Patterns, made in Merchant & Mills quilted cotton from Gather Here, my LYS in Cambridge, MA. It has small tear in it that I plan to stitch up using visible mending or maybe some embroidery.

Non me mades: I’m wearing my favorite Wool& Lane Ponte Pants, which are heavyweight (340gsm) 71% merino ponte and slightly tailored so they look a bit more elevated than lounge pants. They are a go-to staple for me! My sunglasses are from a supermarket in Bavaria, I think I paid €15 for them, because while I wear sunglasses almost every day, I know that if I get pricey ones I will immediately lose or break them.

Day 2: Saturday

Another wfh day! I try to not work on the weekends but it’s been a busy few weeks so sometimes I have to play catch up.

Me mades: I’m wearing my Apple Cider Doughnut Cardigan, which was one of my earlier garment patterns, published in 2021. It’s knit in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted in “Amber Heather”. It’s probably my most-worn knit, as it’s easy to throw on over anything and I wear it constantly in the autumn, winter, and spring.

Non me mades: I’m also wearing more Wool&, this time the Terra Ponte Legging, which are made in the same heavyweight merino as the Lane Pants but as leggings (with pockets!). I’ve also got a t-shirt from the New England Farm and Fiber Festival a few years ago and my favorite Golden Earth Designs mug for my tea.

Day 3: Sunday

More wfh and running errands!

Me mades: This is a rolled hem raglan that I don’t really plan to write a pattern for, but it’s basically my Sure Thing Raglan but with rolled stockinette hems instead of ribbing. It’s knit in Knit Picks City Tweed DK in “Toad”. I’m also wearing a basic garter stitch triangle shawl that I also don’t have a pattern for (but I am working on another triangle shawl pattern right now!). It’s knit in discontinued Classic Elite Yarn MountainTop Chalet in 8 colors that I bought in high school. I think I started knitting this in 2020, but I only finished it in autumn 2024. It’s big and cozy and perfect to throw on when I need one more layer.

Non me mades: Thrifted Land’s End jeans and my Indie Untangled 2025 tote bag.

Day 4: Monday

Last minute errands and packing for h+h americas on Tuesday!

Me mades: The only me made I have on today is a baseball cap that I added a tatreez flower motif to. I’m still learning tatreez, but this cap was really fun to do! The motif and tatreez tutorial are from Tatreez Traditions.

Non me mades: This is my favorite keffiyeh from Hirbawi, the colors are inspired by Gaza. I alternate wearing and my classic black and white keffiyeh to a regular Palestinian solidarity standout I participate in most mornings. I’m also wearing my thrifted Barbour jacket that really needs a new coat of wax, but the last time I rewaxed it myself it was a total mess so I think I’ll send it off to have it done professionally sometime this summer.

Day 5: Tuesday

Flying to Chicago for the h+h americas trade show! This is a an amazing conference for the fiber and fabric industry, and I look forward to meeting with colleagues in person each year. Today is a full day of classes and networking with the Craft Industry Alliance before the trade show officially starts.

Me mades: Nothing new here, just my tatreez baseball cap and my alpaca Sure Thing Raglan.

Non me mades: Masked up because airports are gross, and I’ve got my new favorite travel backpack from Brevite that I thrifted off Poshmark. I’m also wearing thrifted black jeans from Gap. You can also see my necklace that I wear every day, a chrysanthemum pendant from my favorite jewellery brand, Nominal.

Day 6: Wednesday

First official day of the h+h americas trade show! I had a portrait session this morning so I wanted to highlight one of my favorite me-made sweaters.

Me mades: My Samhain Sweater, knit in Megs & Co Empire Estate DK in “Pumpkin Spice” and “Bare Naked”.

Non me mades: Thrifted Gap jeans and Indie Untangled tote bag.

Day 7: Thursday

Day Two of h+h americas, and the only change to my outfit is my sweater. I only brought a carry on, no checked luggage, so I don’t have too much in terms of variety.

Me mades: A cropped cardigan I knit on my KX-350 knitting machine in upcycled brushed suri alpaca yarn. I don’t have a pattern for this, but I am working on writing up a machine and hand-knit pattern for a very similar cardigan!

Non me mades: Thrifted Gap jeans, Indie Untangled tote bag, Simply Merino wool tank, and Nominal necklace.

And that’s it for the first week of Me Made May! I’m really enjoying documenting all of my outfits so far this month. It’s encouraging me to wear my favorites in new combinations and to experiment with outfit formulas a bit. It’s also inspiring me to do more sewing, which is a hobby I don’t make as much time for as I’d like. I have more travel coming up this month, so stay tuned for my handmade travel wardrobe!
